On April 25th, 2015, Nepal was devastated by a magnitude 7.9 earthquake with an epicenter 50 miles (80 km) northwest of Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu. As of April 28th, 2015, the death toll is estimated to be over 5,000. The earthquake not only affected Nepal, but also nearby countries such as India, China, and Bangladesh; the earthquake triggered an avalanche on Mount Everest and claimed the lives of at least 18, as well as an avalanche in Langtang valley where 250 people are reported missing.
